This message does not come from a worldly standpoint about the power of your mind. It comes from a biblical standpoint on what Christ says we need to do with your mind. Romans 12:2 says "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." First of all, we are to renew our minds. We all allow thoughts into our minds that just sit there and simmer like a good meal in a crock-pot does. A pinch of jealousy, a dash of anger, a spread of resentment. When you allow those thoughts into your mind, and keep thinking about them, you continue to let that simmer to the point of boiling. Renewing your mind is taking those thoughts and renewing them by either replacing them with good thoughts, or to make the decision to not allow those thoughts to fester in your mind.
You can "lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ" 2 Corinthians 10:5.
I personally believe this can be one of the hardest areas to conquer. I know for me it has been in my walk with Christ. Daily attacks in my mind are not an uncommon thing for me. You see, Satan knows where I have been. He knows what kind of life I lived before Christ graciously saved me. He constantly brings things to my remembrance, things I DO NOT want to remember and I have to immediately take that thought to Christ. Satan slyly says things to me like "don’t you remember how much fun you had", or "don’t you wish you could do those things again?" Satan throws darts into my mind. Ephesians 6:16 says "Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked." If I receive those thoughts from him, and allow them to simmer in my mind, I can easily start believing what he says, agreeing with him. I don’t want that. I don’t want thoughts that can ultimately destroy my relationship with God, my relationship with my spouse, walking away from a life I truly love. Can that happen? Absolutely. Everything you have ever done, or said has begun with a thought. Satan is out to steal, kill and destroy and if he can enter into the door of your mind, you would be surprised how many people allow him to conquer them in that way. It breaks my heart to hear of suicides. I can’t imagine anyone feeling so horrible, that they would have to take their own life. But they choose to believe something about themselves that was not TRUTH. Some say that they felt it was their only choice. It very well may have been the only choice Satan was telling them they had. They didn’t know another way.
What you think about, and what you allow to sit and simmer on your mind all day can have a dramatic effect on your life! If you are constantly thinking negatively, then you are going to be seen as a negative person, because what you think about flows out of you. Your mind can also feel like rush hour in the middle of New York City. Too much "stuff" going on up there. Relax your mind. Get rid of some of that junk. If it’s not junk and you just have so much to do and on your mind, get it out. I have a dear friend that call this "brain dump". Get it out of your mind so you can have some peace and relaxation. Write it all down, so you don’t forget and you can pick it up later and it doesn’t have sit simmering along with a thousand other things. Satan can use busyness in your mind to wear you down and make you ineffective for God’s Kingdom purposes he has for you.
I am not disclaiming what the secular world says about "bringing things into existence" by meditating on things you want or desire, I just think you are creating idols in your life when you do that. You want wealth, prosperity, a BMW? Do those things line up with God’s will for your life? If they don’t you may get them, but they may not last long when not built on a firm foundation of God’s truth. Meditate on God and His Kingdom! Meditate on His Word and His will for your life. Some of those things you desire so much may not be so "awesome" once you do that. Believe me when I say, I am not sitting here talking "to" you. I am talking to me as well. Everything I talk about here, I have to do myself on a daily basis. It happens. Satan knows what area in your life he can "try" to attack and he attacks my mind. I have to constantly renew it. I have to be consistently renewed in the spirit of my mind (Ephesians 4:23). So "think" about what your "thinking" about and do some purging, and get that mind off the simmering and (sometimes) boiling crock-pot!
