“I just don’t want to do it!”

"I just don’t want to do it!" You know that phrase don’t you? That’s you…and me…telling God we just don’t want to show love to that person he just laid on your heart. It might be someone you can’t stand to be around, it might be in-laws that have made your life and marriage much harder than you ever thought possible. It might be that person you see in Walmart……you can tell hasn’t showered in week. There are so many people in this world that we may "feel" we have a right to ignore when it comes to showering the love of Jesus on them. But we don’t have a right. Jesus was the ultimate example of love. When we begin to think we had "a right" to be sacrificed for, we had BETTER think again. None of us deserved the wonderful gift that Jesus died to give us. He did it, ultimately, out of love for us. He loved us so very much. Jesus was and is our example that we must follow. We are hesitant to approach people that might not have the best clothes on, yet Jesus embraced those who probably had never had a shower as long as they had lived! Prostitutes, beggars, diseased….Jesus didn’t care did He? How selfish we have become. We are so full of wants and desires, we think only of ourselves most times…..or not even thinking outside our own homes. Its easy to show love to your family and close friends. How can we get to that place of loving others we come in contact with everyday, with the love of Christ? I think first, we need to repent and ask God for forgiveness. Forgiveness for being selfish and prideful.  It is NOT all about YOU!  Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with having dreams and goals and feeling like you have purpose in this life, but when that is ALL that we are consumed of…..we ARE selfish.  We could wake, everyday, and ask God to help us show the love of Christ to anyone that needs it throughout our day. Open your eyes! If you really opened your eyes, and you were sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit, you would be surprised to see who all in your life and those you might come in contact with throughout your day, need God! I think sometimes we walk around hesitant, because there is NO WAY you can give someone money, or something else valuable to you. It’s not always about that? A smile…..a simple smile of encouragement and acceptance can change someone’s day in a instant! Opening a door for a elderly lady, or a mom lugging two children in her arms. Grabbing somebody’s grocery cart in the parking lot at Walmart, and putting it away with yours. Simple small things that we don’t even take the time to look up and see what is going on around us!!! Sometimes our giving will be a sacrifice, it might be money you have saved up for something you were really wanting and God laid it on your heart to give it to someone in need. It could be having an extra bedroom that never gets used and you know a family that needs a bed and dresser! It could be giving a single mom a car when you have three in the household anyway and you never drive it….it sits in the yard most days of the week! Our sacrificial giving can be as simple as a smile and as grand as a house! (YES..I have heard stories of people giving people homes!) Were those people blessed by those gifts? Absolutely! But what do you think it does to your heart when you give? What do you think Jesus thinks when he sees you putting others needs above your own? That is exactly how we are to live this Christian life. We are to love others as Christ does. We are too see past the outer exterior and "see" what their inner man looks like. Jesus looked straight into their souls. He loved them regardless of their outward circumstances. The next time you are telling God "I just don’t want to do it"……take a step of faith and do what He is asking you to do. Show the love of Christ to someone that desperately needs it. People are hurting and they need the love of Christ shown through acts of kindness and generosity. It takes an open and giving heart to love like Christ, but you can pray that God develop that open and giving heart within you!
